Founded in 1992, Troop 582 in located historic New Windsor, Maryland and meets weekly at St. Lukes Winters Lutheran Church, our chartering organization. We are a growing, very active unit comprised of about 30 families. Our scouts range in age from 11 to 17, and are supported by a team of 7 Scoutmasters and a very active Troop Committee.
Troop 582 is a 'Scout-run' program. Our culture and structure is centered around empowering our Scouts to develop there leadership skills to prepare them for the challenges of tomorrow as well as the next fun activity.
Our calendar of activities is planned annually by our youth leaders to insure that our program is in alignment with the interestes of our Scouts. Traditionally this mix of activities includes
  • camping
  • backpacking
  • canoeing
  • cycling
  • rock climbing
  • geocaching
We offer a week-long Summer Camp experience (considered by many to be the high point of the year), where scouts work on Merit Badges and outdoor skills. Community service, conservation projects and fund raising activities round out our schedule to support not only our prgram, but our community, our sponsor and the environment.

We have been very fortunate to have Scouts and Scouters from our unit participate in some of the 'big-venue' national and international activities like the 2005 Boy Scouts National Jamboree, and high adventure programs Philmont Scout Ranch in Cimarron, NM.
We have proudly had two scouts earn the rank of Eagle Scout, with several of our adult leaders earning this distinction a youth.

One of the reasons our unit is so successful, is our commitment to training. All of our adult leadership and our key administrative positions are held by adults who have taken advantage of the training resources provided by the Boy Scouts of America, with several completing the Course for the Wood Badge.
The bottom line...
We have fun.
